  • Why should I get a 3D/4D/HD ultrasound?

We offer elective (voluntary) 2D/3D/4D & 5D/HD Live Prenatal Ultrasounds with many different purposes in mind. Some of these include providing a positive bonding experience for the mother, father, and loved ones with the unborn baby, as well as determining the number of gestations, baby's heart rate, placenta location, and baby's position. Some families will come to Baby's Close-Up for seeing and hearing their baby's heartbeat (as early as 6+ weeks pregnant), for early gender determination (as early as 14 weeks pregnant), or to see what their baby will look like in 3D/4D/HD and what interesting things they are up to in the womb (recommended 22-37 weeks pregnant).

  • Does 3D/4D/HD ultrasound take the place of an ultrasound at my doctor's office?

ABSOLUTELY NOT! A routine ultrasound examination must have already been performed prior to having an ultrasound at our facility. Our ultrasounds do not look for any abnormalities and it is important to be seen by a doctor before getting a 3D/4D/HD ultrasound. A routine ultrasound examination should have already been performed to assess the gestational age of the fetus and to evaluate for fetal anomalies as well as the basic components of fetal anatomy recommended for screening.

  • What is an elective complete limited diagnostic ultrasound?

An elective complete limited diagnostic ultrasound is a voluntary service that is not covered by health insurance that gives limited diagnostic information such as number of babies, placental location, position of the baby, and heartbeat confirmation. 3D/4D/HD ultrasounds can be used in addition to, but never in place of diagnostic prenatal ultrasounds done by a medical provider.

  • What are the requirements before having my 3D/4D/HD ultrasound session?

Women seeking an elective prenatal ultrasound with Baby's Close-Up must already be receiving treatment from a healthcare provider for prenatal care. The issues that we are evaluating in the elective prenatal ultrasound session include a limited diagnostic scan to confirm heartbeat, the number of babies in the pregnancy, the position of the baby, and the placenta location. Please note, at no time is this exam to be used in place of a complete diagnostic ultrasound. A full bladder is required for "A Star in the Making" early heartbeat package.

  • How is this different than the ultrasound performed/ordered by my Doctor?

Many women have a diagnostic ultrasound performed at 18-20 weeks. In most cases, your doctor or sonographer will use 2D ultrasound to determine important information such as fetal age and to screen for any abnormalities. All of this information is very important, but we want your experience at "Baby's Close-Up" to feel completely different than being in a cold, sterile, sometimes stressful environment. We strive to provide a friendly, welcoming, relaxed environment that will hopefully leave you with wonderful memories of the interactive bonding experience that you had with your little one. We schedule our Ultrasound sessions in time intervals adequate enough to provide an unhurried session, as well as allowing time to perform certain tricks in order to try to wake baby up or to get baby to change position. The actual ultrasound session scan time can last anywhere from 5-40 minutes, depending on the package that is chosen.

  • Is 3D/4D/HD ultrasound safe? Are there any risks to me, or my baby?

Extensive studies over the last 30 years have found that ultrasound has not been shown to cause any harm to mother or baby. Routine scanning of all pregnancies is normal throughout the United States. In 3D/4D/HD scanning exactly the same type and intensity of ultrasound is used as with conventional 2D scanning done at your doctor's office. 3D and 4D Ultrasound both utilize sound waves similar to radar to look inside the body. A probe placed on the body emits sound waves into the body, listens for the return echo and generates an image. 4D ultrasound will be similar to a conventional scan done at your Ob/Gyn's office, in terms of exposure.

  • Do I need an appointment?

Yes, appointments are necessary for all of our ultrasound services. You can make an appointment by giving us a call at (904) 642-6867, or you can make an appointment through our website, 24 hours a day at www.babyscloseup.com.

  • How long does the 3D/4D/HD ultrasound take?

We schedule our 3D/4D/HD ultrasounds for 20-50 minutes (depending on the package you choose), and the ultrasound itself will last approximately 15-40 minutes, with most sessions lasting around 30 minutes. The rest of the appointment time will be used to print photos, make CDs and DVD's, and to allow time for techniques that may have to be used to get baby to wake up or to change position. Clients who arrive more than 10 minutes after their appointment time will have their session time shortened, or the appointment can be rescheduled for an additional $25 (upon discretion of the technologist and extenuating circumstances).

  • How far along should I be before I have a 3D/4D/HD ultrasound?

If you are planning on having only one 3D/4D/HD ultrasound during your pregnancy, we would recommend scheduling your appointment to take place between the 26th and 34th week of the pregnancy. Even though this is the ideal time to obtain excellent images of your baby, realistic and life-like pictures can be obtained anytime after 22 weeks of pregnancy as well as and up until your baby's birth. Many mothers choose to have more than one 3D/4D ultrasound during their pregnancy in order to see how much baby is growing and changing between their second and third trimesters.

  • Will I always get beautiful, clear pictures of my baby?

Usually, but not always. We will do everything in our power to obtain the best possible images of your baby, but there are times when it may be difficult to see your baby's face (depending on the baby's position, amniotic fluid levels, and the location of the placenta). If this happens for the duration of your session, AND only if you have chosen a package that allows a free rescan option, a ONE TIME 15-20 minute free repeat scan will be offered to be scheduled within 1-2 weeks, in hopes of the baby moving into a favorable position. Free rescan ultrasound appointments are ONLY available on Monday-Fridays from 9 am-1 pm. Every baby scans differently, depending on its gestational age, position, amount of fluid, as well as the mother's condition and body type. We guarantee to make every effort to obtain the best possible images of whatever parts of the baby that can be seen.

  • What can I do to help get the best possible pictures of my baby?

First, it is important to pay attention and to try to schedule your appointment during a time of day when your baby is usually active. Second, pay attention to whether your baby is more active after eating and drinking. 3D/4D/HD Ultrasounds and gender determination ultrasounds are usually more successful and entertaining when a baby is awake. Please don't eat a heavy meal before your appointment or the baby may sleep during the ultrasound. Many babies seem to move around after Mommy drinks cold and/or fruity beverages so we recommend having a fruit smoothie or something to eat or drink with natural sugars in it on your way to your appointment, or around 10-15 minutes before your ultrasound session begins. Also, if you know that your baby is breech, you may want to post-pone your appointment a week or two to increase the chance of your baby turning before your appointment in order to get the best possible images of your baby. Long car rides/travel time can also put a baby to sleep, so try to avoid that if possible. It is extremely important that you try to drink as much water as possible, the week before your ultrasound appointment. This can increase the amount of amniotic fluid around the baby, which can improve picture quality.

  • Can I bring my family and friends?

Yes. At Baby's Close-Up, we encourage our clients to invite family and friends (including children), to attend the elective ultrasound session. This is such a joyous, memorable, and beautiful bonding experience, and we would love for you to be able to share it with your family and loved ones. We can accommodate up to 16 guests seated, with a 20 guest maximum please. (There is a $10 surcharge/fee for groups with more than 8 guests). We are different than anyone else in Jacksonville because we are setup like a mini movie theater. Invite your friends and family to come together to watch the feature presentation of your little one in our fun, memorable, unique environment. We even have movie style theater candy available for purchase before the show begins. Many people describe their visit to Baby's Close-Up as an "experience that will never be forgotten". If your friends and/or family are unable to attend, we have a digital download of your session available to share for only $10.

  • Are you able to tell the sex of the baby?

Yes, in most cases we can determine if you are having a boy or a girl after 14 weeks by ultrasound. We are also able to determine your baby's gender as early as 6+ weeks using our SneakPeek Clinical Gender DNA test. However, we cannot guarantee that the baby will cooperate during your session. There are many factors that can affect the ability of an ultrasound to determine gender, such as body tissue content, developmental stage and fetal position. If we are unable to determine this, we will bring you back at no charge to try again in 1-2 weeks. To increase the likelihood that we will be able to determine your baby's gender on your appointment date, please make sure to have something to eat or drink that has natural sugar in it, such as orange juice, a smoothie, chocolate, etc. about 10-15 minutes before your appointment time. We also need expectant mommy's to come to their gender determination ultrasound appointment with a full bladder (you should feel the urge to urinate). We measure all babies at the beginning of each gender ultrasound. If the baby measures under 14 weeks by more than 5 days and you have to come back, there is an additional $20 charge.

  • What type of music is on the DVD video of my baby's ultrasound session?

We have various lullaby renditions of different types of music to choose from in our office. We play your music selection during your ultrasound if desired, and this music will also be burned onto your DVD video (if DVD is purchased). If you prefer, you can bring your own music CD which can be burned onto the DVD video. The only audio files we can burn onto the DVD must be burned onto a CD and brought in on the appointment date.

  • What if I have to Cancel or Reschedule my Appointment?

72 hour cancellation notice, and 48 hour rescheduling notice is required to avoid being charged a NO SHOW FEE of $25.00. If you are considered a NO SHOW, your $25 deposit will be non-refundable. We have an ultrasound technologist waiting to accommodate you for your ultrasound appointment, and this fee will help pay for costs associated with a client not showing up for their appointment. We understand that there are specific circumstances where it can be hard to contact us to cancel or reschedule, but each individual situation will determine if we will waive this NO SHOW fee. (Upon our discretion). All refunds for appointments that are canceled in a timely manner, will receive a refund, minus credit card processing fees ($1.36 in fees deducted from $25 deposit).

Please call us at (904) 642-6867 if you would like to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Please make sure to leave us a voicemail message if we are unable to answer our phones.

  • What if I am late to my appointment?

All clients are asked to arrive approximately 10-15 minutes before their appointment time to fill out paperwork and in case of traffic and/or getting lost. The actual ultrasound should start at the appointment time that was given to you. Clients who arrive more than 10 minutes after their appointment time will have their session time shortened, or the appointment can be rescheduled for an additional $25 (upon discretion of the technologist and extenuating circumstances).

  • What if my baby won't cooperate and we can't see his/her face?

Sometimes babies are shy or sleeping and don't want to show us their face. If you book a package that includes a free rescan option if the baby does not cooperate, we will allow you to make a 15-20 minute rescan appointment (Rescans must ONLY be scheduled for Monday-Friday between 9:00 am - 1 pm), at no charge and upon the ultrasound technologists discretion. There are certain times of day when babies will sleep no matter what we do or what you eat or drink. The tech might recommend scheduling your rescan appointment for a different time of day, if possible. We are usually pretty successful at being able to get great pictures the second time around, although some baby's never cooperate for 3D/4D/5D Ultrasound.

Frequently Asked Questions about SneakPeek® Early Gender DNA Test

  • I've previously had a boy. Will that skew my results?

Clinical studies have shown that fetal DNA clears from mom’s bloodstream between a few hours to 2 days after birth.

  • I’m having twins. Can SneakPeek determine fetal sex for each one?

In the case of identical twins, if male DNA is found, then both babies are boys. If no male DNA is found, then both babies are girls. For fraternal twins (or more!), finding male DNA will confirm at least one baby is a boy, but cannot distinguish if the second is a boy or girl.

  • Do hormone disorders such as PCOS affect my results?

SneakPeek is a DNA-based test, so hormones do not impact results.

  • Do blood thinners affect my results?

SneakPeek looks only for the presence of Y chromosomes and is extremely sensitive and accurate. No blood thinners or other drugs are known to impact SneakPeek gender results.

  • Is this test safe?

SneakPeek Clinical is a non-invasive prenatal test (NIPT), and it’s safe for both mom and baby.

  • How quickly can I get my results?

Your sample is mailed to SneakPeek Labs in San Diego, CA via FedEx overnight mail.
FastTrack customers: Expect your result email between 4-8pm Pacific Time the same day your sample is received by SneakPeek.
Standard customers: Expect your result email between 1-5pm Pacific Time the day after your sample is received by SneakPeek.

  • Are results guaranteed?

SneakPeek Clinical is the most accurate early gender test on the market. If your test result does not match the gender of your newborn, you’ll receive a full refund.

  • How is my privacy protected?

We know your DNA information is personal. To protect your privacy:
    1. SneakPeek tests only for baby’s gender. No data is gathered about disease states or other health-related information.
